7/19/2018 Shohei Ohtani, LAA, P
The Angels say Ohtani's elbow ligament is continuing to heal and he has been medically cleared to begin a throwing progression.

Analysis: The team said Ohtani was given a six-week evaluation Thursday by Dr. Steve Yoon at the Kerlan Jobe Institute. The Angels said they would release specifics about his progress and rehabilitation schedule at another time. Ohtani was placed on the DL with an ulnar collateral ligament sprain on June 8. He has since returned as a DH, but his prospects to pitch remain unclear.
7/19/2018 Brandon Morrow, ChC, P
Morrow has been placed on the 10-day disabled list due to right biceps inflammation.

Analysis: It's possible that the Cubs are giving Morrow, who does have an extensive injury history, a little extra time off following the All-Star break. Or it could be something more serious. It's as of now unclear how long he'll be sidelined or who'll handle closing duties in the meantime, with Steve Cishek and Pedro Strop the most logical candidates.
7/19/2018 Francisco Mejía, SD, C
The Padres have acquired Mejia, considered the top catching prospect in baseball, from the Indians in the trade that sent All-Star Brad Hand and fellow reliever Adam Cimber to Cleveland.

Analysis: The 22-year-old Mejia owns a .291 career average in the minors and put together a 50-game hitting streak in 2016. He should get a long look with the Padres at some point this season and clearly rates as the team's long-term answer behind the plate.
7/19/2018 Adam Cimber, Cle, P
The Indians have acquired Cimber along with fellow reliever Brad Hand from the Padres in exchange for catching prospect Francisco Mejia.

Analysis: While the All-Star Hand is obviously the centerpiece of the deal, Cimber could be a sneaky-good addition in his own right if used in a specialist's role. The rookie has limited right-handed hitters to a .210 average and a paltry .482 OPS thus far.
7/19/2018 Brad Hand, Cle, P
The Indians have acquired Hand along with fellow receiver Adam Cimber from the Padres in exchange for catching prospect Francisco Mejia.

Analysis: Hand, an All-Star in each of the past two seasons and tied for third in the National League with 24 saves, immediately upgrades a Cleveland bullpen that's been one of the majors' worst this year. The standout lefty's fantasy value could take a hit with the move, however, as it's unclear whether he'll unseat Cody Allen as the Indians' regular closer.
7/18/2018 Manny Machado, LAD, 3B
The Dodgers have won the Manny Machado sweepstakes, garnering the prized All-Star shortstop from the Orioles in a trade Wednesday night.

Analysis: Machado, a power-hitter with extraordinary fielding skills, greatly improves the Dodgers' chances of reaching the World Series for a second consecutive year. He led Baltimore in batting average (.315), home runs (24) and RBIs (65).
7/18/2018 Scott Schebler, Cin, RF
The Reds have placed Schebler on the disabled list with a sprained right shoulder he sustained Saturday against the Cardinals.

Analysis: Since Schebler throws right-handed, he could very well be sidelined for a period longer than the minimum stay. His absence should mean more playing time for Adam Duvall and Jesse Winkler, the latter of whom has been swinging a very hot bat in July.
7/18/2018 Miles Mikolas, StL, P
The Cardinals have placed Mikolas on the paternity leave list.

Analysis: Mikolas missed his first All-Star Game on Tuesday as he traveled to Florida to be with his wife as she gave birth to twins. The right-hander is slated to next pitch Sunday when the Cardinals wrap up a five-game series with the Cubs in Chicago.
