Celtics hope return home can slow James

BOSTON (AP) The Celtics expected to see a different LeBron James in Cleveland after the Cavaliers fell into a 2-0 hole to open the Eastern Conference finals.

Two games and back-to-back wins later , James has reminded everyone exactly why he's been to seven straight NBA Finals.

Boston will be back in the embrace of its raucous fans at TD Garden for Game 5 on Wednesday. But a team that has thrived on youth this postseason suddenly looks disoriented without a go-to player and opposite a more veteran squad that has found a new attitude thanks to the fuel being provided by its biggest star.

Clippers give coach Rivers extension

LOS ANGELES (AP) The Clippers and coach Doc Rivers have agreed to a contract extension that will keep him around to oversee the post-Lob City era.

The team announced the extension Wednesday while not disclosing terms of the deal. Rivers was set to enter the final year of his five-year contract next season.

Rockets to honor Santa Fe victims

HOUSTON (AP) The Houston Rockets will wear patches on their jerseys to honor the victims of the school shooting in Santa Fe, Texas, on Thursday night in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals against the Golden State Warriors.

The patches will read: "Santa Fe HS." It's one of several tributes the team plans following Friday's shooting. Eight students and two teachers died at the school, located 30 miles from downtown Houston.

Simmons, Mitchell unanimous All-Rookies

NEW YORK (AP) Philadelphia's Ben Simmons and Utah's Donovan Mitchell are unanimous selections to the NBA's All-Rookie team.

The two guards received all 100 first-place votes from a panel of sports writers and broadcasters. Both players helped their teams reach the second round of the playoffs.

Mutombo to receive Sager Strong Award

NEW YORK (AP) Hall of Fame basketball player Dikembe Mutombo will receive the Sager Strong Award at this year's NBA Awards show.

The award is named for longtime Turner Sports sideline reporter Craig Sager and presented annually to an individual who has been a trailblazer while exemplifying courage, faith, compassion and grace.

GoFundMe page eyes $1M for LeBron statue

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio (AP) LeBron James may go from idolized to immortalized in his hometown.

A GoFundMe account has been established with a goal to raise $1 million to sculpt and erect a life-size statue of James in Akron, where he began his basketball career before becoming a superstar with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Warriors' Kerr wins Tomjanovich Award

Golden State's Steve Kerr has won the Rudy Tomjanovich Award, given to an NBA coach in recognition of his cooperation with media and fans, as well as excellence on the court.

The Professional Basketball Writers Association announced the winner Tuesday. The award is named for Tomjanovich, the former Houston Rockets coach.

Hall of Famer Russell hospitalized, OK

SEATTLE (AP) Basketball Hall of Famer Bill Russell was released from a Seattle hospital Saturday after an overnight stay for an unknown condition.

Russell confirmed on Twitter that he went to the hospital late Friday. He didn't say why.
